Planning the annual office Christmas party this year is not an easy task. The new coronavirus rules—which limit gatherings of more than six people—and the 10pm curfew on bars and restaurants means that employers are looking for alternatives to the traditional Christmas party.
It’s been a tough year and many companies want to reward their staff with a fun way to celebrate the festive season. Whilst Christmas 2020 might not see the whole company coming together for a seasonal shindig, there are plenty of ways you can celebrate responsibly.
Small scale departmental get-togethers
Many larger companies are asking individual managers to organise a smaller scale party at a department level. The response has been positive as these get-togethers are more personal and can encourage team building within the department.
We can help managers to source a suitable private room or area within a restaurant, create an exclusive Christmas menu and style the table to bring a touch of sparkle to the occasion. To add to the festivity, organise a Secret Santa so everyone receives a fun gift during the meal too!
Bring the party to the office
If your premises have already been adapted for social distancing, it’s worth considering stepping back in time to host a classic Christmas party in the office. We can work with your company to create a Winter-themed wonderland in an open plan office, boardroom or canteen.
Canapes, finger food or bowl food can be served—along with a selection of Christmas cocktails and a host of games to make it a Christmas party to remember.
Leaving guests a parcel of festive headwear or fancy-dress items on their desk will allow them to dress up without having to share props or clothes to pose for those all-important party pics.
If you don’t want to host a party, but still want to treat your staff, then we love the idea of a ‘Christmas Tea Trolley’. Staff can remain seated and socially distanced at their desks, while catering and gifts can be delivered on an old-fashioned hostess trolley for a retro-style afternoon tea break.
The Zoom office party
Technology has been our friend as we navigate the ever-changing COVID-19 rules, so if you don’t feel comfortable hosting a physical celebration, then invite your staff to join a virtual office party!
With a little imagination (and some Christmas magic from the Penny Events team) the company can enjoy a get-together from the comfort of their armchairs. Plus – everyone will be able to enjoy a festive tipple without the need for a designated driver.
We can help by organising desk decor packages for each guest to display on the call to get them into the spirit. Why not have canapes and fizz delivered to the office for each guest to take home and consume at the virtual party?
We’ve even heard that some companies are planning a Christmas Karaoke party online… Thankfully, if Nigel-from-accounts’ rendition of ‘Mistletoe and Wine’ is not your cup of tea, then you can simply press the mute button!
Creative corporate celebrations
Companies will have to think outside the box to deliver a Christmas party in 2020. Penny Events are experts in planning and styling corporate celebrations—for even the most intimate of guest lists.
While we must all act responsibly and adapt to the landscape that the pandemic is setting, we can help you deliver some much-need Christmas cheer to employees this festive season. Contact our team for a FREE planning session to discuss your ideas.
